Will my insurance company pay for counseling?
I do not know. Payment for counseling is due at the time of service, so please make any necessary arrangements prior. Many PPO and HMO plans will not pay for counseling. For those that have plans that do cover counseling, generally they only cover therapists within their network or a very limited amount for out-of-network therapists. I would encourage you to contact your insurance company for the specifics of your plan. I do not bill insurance or receive payment from insurance. If you would like to try to use your insurance, and have pre-authorization to do so, I can provide you with a receipt to submit yourself to the insurance company. Please remember that you are still responsible for the full amount at the time of service. Unfortunately I cannot guarantee your insurance will reimburse you for the cost of therapy either in full or even partially, but it never hurts to ask. If you would like a referral to a therapist that takes insurance I would be happy to refer you to a few that may. You may also check with your insurance company for a list of their network therapists. Another important factor is even if you see a therapist who is on your insurance plan's pannel, your plan may require a "parity" diagnosis (medically necessary). In the absence of a parity diagnosis your insurance may not pay even for therapy with your plan's therapists. Please check with your individual plan for details.
