What is an MFT or LMFT?MFT is the acronym for Marriage and Family Therapist . LMFT designates that the therapist is licensed. MFT also implies licensure in the absence of an MFTI in which the 'I' designates a satatus of registered intern . An MFT or LMFT's license certifies them as specialists in the area of relationships. You may have seen a therapist use the credentials MFCC (Marriage, Family and Child Counselor). Although it is permissible for licensed therapists to continue using the MFCC credential, the official name changed to MFT in the mid-late 1990s. |
